California Regs Kick in, Take First Casualty

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Regulations mandated by California's Air Resources Board (ARB) requiring the elimination of perchloroethylene machinery older than 15 years went into effect Thursday, forcing at least one longtime operator to close its doors.

California Assembly Bans Free Single-Use Bags, Poly Bags Next?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California State Assembly passed a bill last week to ban all single-use bags from being handed out free of charge in the state’s supermarkets, drug stores, convenience stores and liquor stores. The measure now goes to the state’s Senate and then to the Governor. A spokesman for California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he supports the bill.

California ARB Completes GreenEarth Evaluation

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has completed an 18-month evaluation of decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) silicon, the solvent used in GreenEarth. According to a letter published at its website, ARB has determined that D5 is an “acceptable drycleaning solvent alternative” to perchloroethylene, but is not eligible for the state’s grant program.
