NEW ORLEANS — Plan for success, spend time wisely, and prioritize tasks

NEW ORLEANS — So much to learn. So many people to see. And so little time.

You’ll face that predicament here at the Clean Show next month, especially now that the show is one day shorter than previous events. You are not alone: Confronted with crowded aisles and hectic booths, attendees too often return home with no more than a confused mass of general impressions.

You can do better. Trade shows can be powerful tools for boosting business profits. The secret is to plan for success, spend time wisely and prioritize tasks.

How to? Read these tips from trade show experts:

TIP 1: SET YOUR GOALS

“Before arriving at the show, make a plan with specific ‘keeper’ ideas,” says Mina Bancroft, a management consultant in Palo Alto, Calif. “Then prioritize them.”

Include specific descriptions of what you want to find at the show. Here are some possibilities:

NEW ORLEANS — Hotel reservation, show preregistration deadlines are this month

NEW ORLEANS — The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will host the world’s premier textile care expo for a fifth time when the 2013 Clean Show—officially the World Educational Congress for Laundering and Drycleaning—arrives on Thursday, June 20, for a three-day stay through Saturday, June 22.

It will mark the first time since 1981 that the Clean Show has been scheduled for three days instead of four, reflecting a “more concise and efficient” format designed to give exhibitors and attendees alike a better value for their investment, according to the Clean Executive Committee.

The Clean Show has been convening every other year since 1977 to present new technology, educational sessions and networking opportunities to all segments of the dry cleaning, laundry and textile care industry. This year’s event is expected to draw 10,000 trade attendees, according to Riddle & Associates, the show’s longtime manager.

CHICAGO — Roughly one-quarter of those responding to this month’s American Drycleaner Wire survey say they are planning to attend Clean ’13 in New Orleans, while another 36.8% are unsure at this point.

Approximately 37% of those responding to the unscientific survey say they will not be attending the biennial event slated for June 20-22 at the Morial Convention Center.

Asked about the biggest factor in favor of attending (whether they were personally planning to attend or not), 42.1% of respondents named “Exhibits of equipment and supplies.” Roughly 11% listed “Combining business and pleasure” as the chief factor, while equal shares of 5.3% look to Clean primarily for its “networking and socializing” opportunities or “educational sessions.” For a sizable portion (36.8%), “It’s all of the above.”

The Clean Show has been shortened from four days to three this year, which is OK with 52.6% of respondents. Approximately 16% “don’t care for this change,” and the remaining 31.6% are “indifferent.”

NEW ORLEANS — Young’s Dry Cleaning’s rebranding campaign after Katrina earns ADDY award

NEW ORLEANS — After Hurricane Katrina destroyed everything their family had worked to build since 1940, the owners of Young’s Dry Cleaning teamed with local advertising agency CPR + Partners to completely redevelop their brand.

The resulting Young’s campaign went on to be recognized in local and regional ad competitions organized by the American Advertising Federation. Next, the campaign stood toe to toe against the best advertising in the country, earning the Lakeview cleaners a 2012 national silver ADDY® award in the category of Mixed Media, Local Consumer.

The ADDY® Awards represent the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising across media of all types, creative by all sizes and entrants of all levels from anywhere in the world.

The Clean Show—officially the World Educational Congress for Laundering and Drycleaning—is the world’s largest exhibition of commercial laundry, dry cleaning and textile services equipment and ancillary products. Attendees can see and compare working equipment through live demonstrations.

I am constantly asked why should I come to the Clean Show or why should I exhibit,” says John Riddle, president of longtime Clean Show management firm Riddle & Associates. “There are many reasons. You will see the newest equipment, learn about new services, see working demonstrations, and have access to outstanding industry education.

ATLANTA — Show committee picks Las Vegas-based company from

ATLANTA — The Clean Executive Committee has selected Global Experience Specialists (GES) to serve as the official services contractor for the 2013 Clean Show in New Orleans.

Three companies submitted proposals for the June 2013 show. “GES did our show in New Orleans in 2009 and did a great job,” says John Riddle, president of Riddle & Associates, the Clean Show’s management company. “We look forward to working with them again in 2013.”

Chicago hosted the first Clean Show in 1977. United Exposition Service Co. was the official services contractor for that event and subsequent shows. GES purchased United in 1993, and the Las Vegas-based company has continued its partnership with the Clean Show for many shows since.

GES produces 3,000 exhibitions and events annually.

The Clean Show—officially titled the World Educational Congress for Laundering and Drycleaning—attracts people across all segments of the textile care industry, from single-owner, coin-operated laundry and drycleaning establishments to giant industrial and institutional laundries and textile rental companies.

ATLANTA — Dates for Clean 2013 in New Orleans have been rescheduled to June 20-22, a Thursday-Saturday show.

“This allows attendees to return home on Sunday to start their workweek on Monday, or gives them an opportunity to stay and enjoy a day in New Orleans after the show,” says David Cotter, chairman of Clean 2013 and CEO of Textile Care Allied Trades Association.

Original dates for the 2013 show announced at Clean 2011 were Friday-Sunday, June 21-23. The three-day-show format in 2013, the first since 1981, is in response to exhibitor and attendee feedback. The show will run three full days rather than close early on the last day to allow time for everyone to fully experience the exhibits.

The 2015 exhibition in Atlanta and the 2017 gathering in Las Vegas were also announced as three-day shows, but Cotter says the biennial event could return to four days if that proves to work better for exhibitors and attendees.

July 12, 2011

CHICAGO — Many drycleaners who attended the Clean Show last month favor the event committee’s decision to shorten the next show to three days, according to June’s unscientific Wire survey, but add that the biennial event should always be scheduled over a weekend to make it easier for small-business owners to attend.

Approximately 72% of respondents said they attended Clean ’11. Roughly 71% of them reported being “fully satisfied” (40%) or “somewhat satisfied” (31.4%) with their experience as a whole. Roughly 17% were “neither satisfied nor dissatisfied,” 8.6% were “somewhat dissatisfied,” and 2.9% were “fully dissatisfied.”

These attendees sought information about a variety of products and services. Among the exhibit categories that respondents sought out, drycleaning machines, washers, tensioning equipment and presses were mentioned most often.

LAS VEGAS — The story after Clean ’09 in New Orleans was that while attendance had been down from the previous show, the quality of the attendees had been extremely high. The post-show message two years ago was about quality, not quantity.

The 2011 show in gaming mecca Las Vegas “held” on attendee quality and “raised” on total attendance, presenting exhibitors with a vibrant marketplace that had many of them feeling like they were on a hot streak.

LAS VEGAS — The Clean Executive Committee (CEC) announced sites and dates for the next three Clean Shows during a press conference earlier today. As reported Sunday by American Trade Magazines, New Orleans’ Morial Convention Center will host the event over three days in 2013.

In 2015, the Clean Show returns to Atlanta, which last hosted the exhibition in 1987. Las Vegas has been chosen to host the 2017 event.

Show dates are:

  • 2013 — June 21-23, 2013
  • 2015 — April 17-19, 2015
  • 2017 — June 19-21, 2017

The dates reflect a more concise and efficient three-day format designed to give exhibitors and attendees a better value for their time and money invested in the Clean Show, the CEC says.

If the three-day experiment doesn’t work as well as hoped, the CEC could return to the four-day format, according to David Cotter, CEO of the Textile Care Allied Trades Association and Clean 2011 Chairman.

LAS VEGAS — Exhibitors are putting the finishing touches on their Clean 2011 booths tonight, in preparation for the show’s opening Monday morning.

But even before this year’s exhibition kicks off with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, news has broken about the next show in 2013.

A banner hanging from the exit of the Las Vegas Convention Center announces that New Orleans will host Clean Show 2013 on June 21-23, 2013.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — It was a hot, humid August in most of the U.S., but everyone at Fabricare 2010 in Long Beach, Calif., seemed cool, calm and collected. Maytag Commercial Laundry contributed 18 volunteers to a team of about 30 commercial laundry industry professionals.

During the full day of work in the New Orleans heat, the volunteers worked on siding and exterior painting. Clay Jackson, the Maytag Repairman advertising spokesman, visited the site to help keep morale strong.

The Clean Executive Committee (CEC) would like to thank all of those who made Clean ’09 an unqualified success! First and foremost, thank you to the nearly 10,000 textile and garment care professionals who spent time, money and energy to attend this year’s show in New Orleans.

July 24, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — Clean ’09 is now one for the books. A few companies didn’t exhibit, and many took out smaller booths. Attendance was also sparse compared to previous shows. Officially, 9,902 people registered and 412 companies leased about 193,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space.

June 21, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — For drycleaners looking to promote a green, ecofriendly message and communicate to their customers that they are the one-stop shop for all their garment-care needs, Adco Cleaning Products introduced AdcoEco at Clean ’09. Drycleaners can sell this new line of ecologically friendly detergent and softener over the counter to promote environmental friendliness and proper garment care, the company says.

June 21, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — Attendee registrations stood at approximately 10,200 as this year’s Clean Show opened for its final day, show planners Riddle & Associates announced this morning. But exhibitors were nearly unanimous in praising the quality of the attendees and exhibition services in New Orleans.

June 21, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — It’s never too early to plan. Clean Show planners Riddle & Associates announced this morning at an exhibitor meeting that the show will return to Las Vegas for its next appearance, with dates set for June 6-9, 2011.

This will be the fifth time that the Clean Show has been held in “Fabulous” Las Vegas. With this schedule, Las Vegas ties Chicago for most shows, and surpasses New Orleans, which has hosted four shows including 2009. Atlanta and Orlando have hosted the show twice, while Dallas took on the task once.
