BALTIMORE — International Drycleaners Congress members will gather here for IDC Convention 2012. The Hyatt Regency at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore will host the four-day event on May 11-14, 2012.

The convention will bring together members from all over the world for networking, international reports and discussions about the future of the textile care industry.

Industry leaders are being invited to speak on a variety of topics, ranging from new technological advances to marketing strategies.

GREENBELT, Md. — ZIPS Dry Cleaners, a 24-store chain based in the Baltimore/Washington area, recently collected a record number of garments to help consumers affected by the economic downturn.

In addition to offering free cleaning to the unemployed before job interviews, the company held its Will2Work Clothing Drive in June, collecting more than 5,000 suits and other garments to provide disadvantaged adults with professional attire to wear on the job or to interviews free of charge.

EVANSTON, Ill. — Legislation is now being introduced to change the rules by which unions can organize private employers — including those in the commercial laundry and drycleaning industries. The bill was scheduled for a vote on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives at the beginning of the month.
