BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp.’s fourth-quarter net earnings rose 111% to $95 million, or $1.24 per diluted share, compared to $44 million, or $0.60 per diluted share, during the same period in 2008, according to the company’s quarterly report.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Maytag Commercial Laundry team members volunteered at a New Orleans Habitat for Humanity build as part of the Coin Laundry Association’s (CLA) LaundryCares Foundation just before the Clean Show. Maytag Commercial Laundry contributed 18 volunteers to a team of about 30 commercial laundry industry professionals.

During the full day of work in the New Orleans heat, the volunteers worked on siding and exterior painting. Clay Jackson, the Maytag Repairman advertising spokesman, visited the site to help keep morale strong.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp. reported a second-quarter profit drop of 33%, but that was still better than analyst expectations. The company also boosted the low end of its full-year profit guidance above analysts’ estimates.

Whirlpool contributed the relatively higher-than-expected profit to lowered working capital, improved pricing and product mix, and additional cost controls.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp. has reported that its profits fell 28% in the first quarter of 2009 due to softening consumer demand and a stronger dollar, but the results were still higher than analysts’ expectations.

The company’s earnings fell to $68 million, or 91 cents per share, down from $94 million, or $1.22 per share, from the same time last year. Sales dropped 23% to $3.57 billion, because its products were more expensive overseas, Whirlpool explains.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have given Whirlpool Corp. the 2009 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence award. The award recognizes the company’s leadership in offering energy- and water-efficient appliances, Whirlpool says. This is the company’s 10th ENERGY STAR award and fourth consecutive Sustained Excellence win.
