Joint DLI/NCA Seminar to Cover Social Media, Economics, Management

LAUREL, Md. & NEW YORK — The Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI) and the National Cleaners Association (NCA) are preparing for their first-ever combined “Five-Star Brainstorming” conference in Puerto Rico in two weeks.

The Jan. 12-15 conference at the Gran Melia Resort will bring together members of both associations and offer an excellent opportunity to network and make new friends in the industry, the associations say.

Each day of the conference will feature morning seminars, leaving the rest of the day free for exploration, relaxation and conversation in a tropical paradise setting.

M&B Completes Five Years with No Lost Time

LEEDS, Ala. — On April 21, M&B Hangers’ Leeds, Ala., production facility celebrated five years without a single lost-time accident. Human-resources manager Darlene Yarobrough helped employees mark the occasion by cooking more than 100 steaks for workers on each of the company’s three shifts.

“We are fortunate to employ some of the finest people in the Leeds, Ala., area, and we are very thankful they take safety as seriously as we do,” says company president Milton Magnus.

Pre-registration Opens Nov. 3 for Clean '09 in New Orleans

ATLANTA — Pre-registration opens Nov. 3 for the Clean Show, scheduled for June 18-21, 2009, at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Anyone who pre-registers before May 23 at the show’s website, www.cleanshow.com, will see a discount on the fee, paying only $60 per person.

Subcommittee to Investigate Worker Deaths at Laundry Plant

LINDEN, N.J. — A congressional subcommittee will conduct a field hearing this afternoon to examine a Dec. 1 industrial accident that resulted in the deaths of two workers at an area linen-supply plant.

The Workforce Protections Subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Education & Labor, chaired by Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), will hold Workplace Tragedies: Examining Problems and Solutions beginning at 2:00 p.m. EST today in the third-floor courtroom of Linden’s City Hall, 301 N. Wood Ave.
