CHICAGO — Almost three-quarters (73.3%) of operators say they now use a website to market their businesses, this month’s Wire survey says, and almost two-thirds (63.3%) say they e-mail customers directly. What’s more, drycleaners are rapidly coming up to speed with social-media tools — 46.7% report using Facebook, and 20.0% use Twitter. Just 13.3% of respondents do not use any new-media tools in marketing their businesses.

CHICAGO — Almost two-thirds (64.3%) of operators are making summer travel plans comparable to last year’s, according to the most recent Wire survey. One in five (21.4%) say they will take more leisure time than they did last year, and just 14.3% say they will scale back their vacation plans this year. The survey could indicate that the worst of the recession is over, with more operators willing to take leisure time with their families and spend money on travel. In 2008, a spike in gasoline prices caused more than two-thirds (68.3%) of drycleaners to scale back their summer travel plans.

CHICAGO — Almost two-thirds (65.7%) of drycleaners are working longer hours than they did five years ago, according to this month's Wire survey, often in spite of declining sales volume. Another 22.4% are working "about the same" amount of hours, and just 11.9% are working less.

CHICAGO — Nine out of 10 (91.7%) operators now use professional wetcleaning techniques in their plants, according to this month’s Wire survey. Half (50.0%) of the respondents still process less than 25% of their non-laundry garment processing in water, however.
